My yoga path and why I practice every day

For a long time, yoga was just a workout for me. I’ve been practicing for about fifteen years, and I enjoyed it from the very beginning. But in those early years, I saw it purely as a way to move my body, but not as a spiritual practice. I went to random classes at different studios whenever it fit into my schedule, but I never really saw any progress. At some point, I started to believe that my body simply wasn’t capable of doing certain poses. So I stopped trying.

Years later, I thought about doing a yoga teacher training. I was curious and wanted to understand yoga on a deeper level. But none of the trainings fit into my schedule, so I let the idea go.

It wasn’t until much later that everything suddenly aligned. A studio I loved offered a training, and for the first time, all the dates worked perfectly for me. It almost felt unreal. So I signed up without even knowing the teacher who would lead the training.

As the training approached, I started practicing more consistently. At the same time, doubts came up. Would I be able to follow a yoga teacher training in English? Would I understand everything? Should I spend so much money?

The first days were tough. Anatomy felt overwhelming, the English terminology was challenging, and the Sanskrit words seemed almost impossible to remember. I questioned my decision and wondered if I had made a mistake by signing up.

But then there was the teacher. She embodied qualities I had buried somewhere deep within myself: self-confidence, freedom, discipline, and courage. So I kept going. Also, I connected deeply with some of the people I was sharing this experience with, some of them became good friends and they are still an important part of my life today.

Little by little, things began to shift. As I started to integrate what we were learning and connect more deeply with the group, something in my life changed. I showed up on my mat every single day. I began diving deeper into yogic philosophy. Yoga was no longer something I tried to fit into my schedule. It became the center around which I built my life.

And my practice changed too. I moved into poses I had once believed were impossible for my body. But more importantly, something within me shifted. I had more energy. More clarity. I started to understand what I truly wanted in life. And maybe the most important part: I found the courage to change things. I let go of old belief patterns, of situations, and even of people that no longer resonated with me.

Through my practice, I realized something powerful: when I challenge myself on the mat and see that I can handle it, I begin to trust that I can handle challenges off the mat as well. This doesn’t just bring a sense of contentment, but it builds real self-confidence. It pushes me out of my comfort zone and gives me the courage to make decisions I might never have made before. And it’s these small decisions that slowly lead you toward the life you truly want to live.

Right now, I'm taking a sabbatical year. I left my job for more than a year to dedicate my time to yoga, travel, and this blog. Before starting my yoga journey, I would have been afraid of leaving my routine, of traveling alone, of putting myself out there.

But this time, I’m not.

And for the first time, I truly trust what’s coming next.
